Leadership by empathy

The authoritarian leadership style has expired, nowadays empathy is required. Managers need sensitivity and should be able to put themselves in the position of their employees. They focus on people at work, not only on their function. With empathy and compassion they receive not only essential information, but also identify needs, skills and motives. They also can better assess how to increase their employees’ motivation.

Yet empathy is still disregarded in many companies, sensitivity and sympathy are considered as weakness and dispensable. But empathy is not an inherent trait and can be learned like vocabulary or chemistry formulas – by listening, questions and critical faculty.

Expecially executives in top positions should set a good example, meet their staff with empathy and respect – and thus ensure the success of the company.
